Adjust job titles and descriptions
Why?
Job descriptions must reflect the job evaluation and classification and use gender-neutral language.
How?
- Review titles and descriptions for gender bias (e.g. ‘foreman’, ‘salesgirl’).
- Rewrite them using simple, factual language that is not gendered.
- Make sure soft skills and emotional work are recognised.
Important
In a micro-organisation, job descriptions may be only half a page long, but they must still cover the four key factors.
Mistakes to avoid
- Using gendered terms (e.g. ‘salesman’, ‘waitress’).
- Leaving out important but ‘invisible’ tasks.
