Riverside Health Clinic (a small organisation)
Implementing the simplified approach for small and medium-sized organisations
Riverside Health Clinic is a small healthcare provider in an EU Member State that offers general medical services, preventive care and diagnostic testing. The clinic employs 34 workers, including doctors, senior nurses, assistant nurses, medical technicians, managers, administrative workers, receptionists and support workers.
Even small workplaces can reflect structural inequalities. Inspired by the EU Pay Transparency Directive and wanting to ensure compliance with national laws incorporating it, the clinic committed to a fairer, more transparent pay structure. They started with a gender-neutral job evaluation and classification to ensure that the roles typically held by women (nursing, administration, reception) were not undervalued compared with support, technical or medical roles.
The clinical director, Anna Johansson, chose the simplified approach for small and medium-sized organisations (Tool 4). Given the small number of employees, she thought the full analytical approach (Tool 5) would have been overly complex and resource-intensive.
