Furthermore, other policies and initiatives to promote gender equality in the field of research and innovation (R & I) might be helpful when starting a GEP. The country-specific information on legislative and policy backgrounds, as well as other support measures to promote gender equality in research, will help you to identify relevant framework conditions for your GEP implementation processes. A country profile for each EU Member State can be accessed below. Country profiles provide information on the following:
- the legal framework, which refers to laws and regulations governing the promotion of gender equality in R & I;
- the policy framework, which refers to specific activities of national authorities to promote gender equality in R & I, such as the establishment of an advisory group, the study commission on gender equality in R & I, the provision of support mechanisms for research organisations to implement GEPs, capacity-building activities, awareness-raising activities, awards for organisations or researchers, etc.;
- other stimulatory initiatives, initiated by companies, non-governmental organisations and non-governmental bodies to promote gender equality in R & I;
- key actors who are responsible for advancing the gender equality agenda in R & I and are able to steer the legal and policy development on gender equality in R & I;
- initiatives on gender equality by research-performing organisations, which describes how many research-performing organisations (including higher education institutions) have a GEP implemented, how well developed these plans are and what the most common measures included in these plans are;
- relevant examples of practice, whereby promising practices of measures promoting gender equality and of developing and implementing GEPs are described, and examples of gender-sensitive responses in the COVID-19 period are provided.
