Cooperation with EU candidate countries and potential candidates
EIGE supports the Western Balkans and Türkiye under the European Commission’s Instrument for Pre-Accession Assistance (IPA).
EIGE’s main objective is to support the EU candidate countries and a potential candidate to improve their gender equality policies and to better monitor gender equality progress in line with EU policies.
Since 2013, EIGE has been providing expertise and technical assistance on a diverse range of gender-related topics. These include the development of monitoring methods and tools used in the EU, such as EIGE’s Gender Equality Index and the Gender Statistics Database. Special attention is given to regional cooperation and the exchange of gender equality-related practices.
EIGE’s Director Carlien Scheele gave an online address for the ‘Women, Peace and Security: Building Alliances for Sustainable Peace’ Forum held on 22-23 October 2022 in Prishtina, Kosovo, hosted by the President of the Republic of Kosovo Dr. Vjosa Osmani.
*This designation is without prejudice to positions on status and is in line with UNSCR 1244 and the ICJ Opinion on the Kosovo Declaration of Independence
Over 400 terms of EIGE’s Glossary and Thesaurus are now available in four languages of EU candidate countries and potential candidates: Albanian, Bosnian, Macedonian and Serbian (in Latin and Cyrillic alphabet for Serbia as well as for Bosnia and Herzegovina).
