Sylvie Rosier

Sylvie Rosier is Director of Research at CNRS (the French National Center of Scientific Research) and had spent most of her career at Laboratoire D’Annecy- le-Vieux de Physique des Particules (LAPP ), but also 2 years the University of Savoy and 2 years at European Organization for Nuclear Research (CERN). She has coordinated experimental searches in international collaborations. She is collaborating since a decade with theoreticians on the interpretation of measurements and on tools for generating/propagating the new physics signal in extended theoretical frames of work.

In 2001 she joined the Alpha Magnetic Spectrometer project (AMS), and was responsible of the front-end electronics of the electromagnetic calorimeter.

In 2005 she has created and lead a LAPP group to join the High Energy Stereoscopic System (HESS) collaboration, and was deeply involved in the mechanical project of the loading-unloading camera system of the fifth and large size telescope (CT5) of HESS2. The first light of HESS2 were observed successfully in July 2012- task for her which was not obvious and the most difficult at the beginning since the engineers or technicians in Mechanics are mostly men and not used to work with women. In 2013, she was asked to report on the Indirect Dark Matter Searches at European Physical Society Conference on High Energy Physics EPS-HEP conference.

She is leading the AMS group made of 9 persons, 5 men (2 senior physicists and 2 PhD students from French universities and 1 Chinese PhD student) and 4 women (2 seniors, 1 Italian postdoc and 1 PhD Chinese student). She is also involved in the Cherenkov Telescope Array project (CTA) and has accepted to co-supervise the PhD thesis in Electronics of a young female from Syria. She was a referee in the French National Committee during which she always promoted gender equality. During her mandates 6 out 7 women candidates have been either promoted or got a permanent position.
