    • Unpaid care: Around one third of women and men struggle to strike a work-life balance in the EU

      Unpaid care is often taken for granted. It's simply done without question as a labour of love. But EIGE’s new time use survey focused on care, leisure and volunteering activities reveals unpaid care is in a pressure cooker situation right now which demands introspection and long-term solutions. Data collected from all EU Member States found that 42% of women and 38% of men are involved in unpaid caregiving activities, such as caring for children, older family members, or people with disabilities.

    What does gender mainstreaming have to do with…Sport? Agriculture? Energy? Transport? Gender gaps and inequalities between women and men exist across all areas of society and impact on our daily lives – in classrooms, on the sports field and on public transport. This leaflet provides a basic introduction to what gender mainstreaming is and how it works. It also contains information on the different resources you can find on EIGE’s online platform to help include a gender perspective into all stages of the policy cycle, including policy area guides, good practices, methods and tools and country specific information.

  • Struggling to understand the difference between gender-bias and gender-blindness? Look no further!

    EIGE’s EU-wide online Gender Equality Glossary and Thesaurus will soon house essential gender-related terms all in one place. You will be able to find over 350 accurate, up-to-date and gender-sensitive definitions. The Glossary and Thesaurus is a step towards ending confusion around key terms. It will foster a common understanding of gender equality concepts amongst Member States and suggest preferred terms of use.
