Types of needs usually identified in a given society, namely practical gender needs and strategic gender needs.
Addressing the practical gender needs of women alone – often related to women’s domestic tasks and concerned with inadequate living conditions – perpetuates the factors which keep women in a disadvantaged position compared to men. Needs related to women’s empowerment are strategic needs that are required to overcome the subordinate position of women.
