Frans Timmermans: “Every step counts. No matter how big or small”
It’s a new year. EIGE’s ongoing commitment to advancing gender equality continues – this year with a focus on the European Green Deal.
Following last year’s #3StepsForward success – a movement uniting policymakers, gender equality activists, business leaders and many others on ways to build a fairer future for everyone – European Commission Vice-President Frans Timmermans has now weighed in with his #3StepsForward.
With his practical approach to making gender equality a reality – from highlighting that every single person counts to reminding us that progress made is never a given, it requires constant work and that gender equality starts from early childhood – his steadfast determination is exactly what we need to maintain the momentum of taking #3StepsForward – “no matter how big or how small.”
Take a look at his #3StepsForward here:
Vice-President Timmermans is leading the European Commission's work on the European Green Deal which is one of EIGE’s key thematic priorities for 2023.
There is a strong intersection between the European Green Deal and gender equality. If the EU is going to successfully transition into a green and digital continent, we have to make room for women and girls to be part of this transformation.
Right now, engrained gender stereotypes, gender gaps in the science, technology, engineering and maths (STEM) fields are driving factors for women and girls’ reluctance to actively participate in these fields.
Women – in all their skills, innovation and diversity – can help shape a modern reality.
