Study for the review of developments at the level of the EU and the Member States in implementing the Beijing Platform for Action in Area K: women and the environment
The study reviewed the progress made by the European Union Member States in the implementation of one of the 12 areas of concern of the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action for Equality, Development and Peace (BPfA), namely of area K: Women and the Environment.
It was the first EU-wide report on gender equality and climate change which provided comparable data at the EU level. Furthermore, it introduced the first indicators to support policy makers in measuring progress in climate change prevention.
To achieve these objectives, the study investigated the theoretical linkages between gender issues and climate change, along with evidence from research undertaken in the EU and its Member States in this area. It analysed women’s participation in climate change decision-making at the national, EU and international levels, and the proportion of women tertiary graduates among all graduates in scientific and technical fields related to climate change.
