On 14-15 October 2013 EIGE is organising a consultation meeting on quality assurance of gender training.
Developing the capacity of policy-makers to incorporate gender concerns into their everyday work is an essential prerequisite for the effective implementation of gender mainstreaming. Since January 2013, EIGE has been carrying out in-depth research on the necessary framework, effects and benefits of gender training. Consultation with relevant stakeholders is an important part of this process.
Previous activities of EIGE – gender training mapping study, online discussions in 2012 and 2013 a European conference on gender training – have emphasised the needs for setting gender training standards and creating quality assurance mechanisms as a way forward for advancing gender mainstreaming capacity in the European Union. Building upon these reflections, this meeting will explore possible ways to improve the quality of training in the European Union.
The consultation meeting will bring together a small number of gender training experts, including gender trainers and representatives of international organisations and some public authorities in the Member States. The meeting is by invitation only.
The discussions will cover the following questions:
- Is there a need to introduce quality assurance mechanisms in gender training in the European Union?
- What kind of standards should be set and by whom?
- What quality assurance mechanisms exist in Europe and abroad?
- How can they be used to develop a quality assurance framework in the European Union?
- What should be EIGE’s role in the development of quality assurance mechanisms in the European Union?
The meeting is organised in the context of EIGE’s study on ‘Gender Training in the European Union: Mapping, research and stakeholders' engagement (2012-2013)’ which falls under EIGE’s gender mainstreaming methods, tools and good practices work.
