Greek League for Women's Rights
The Greek League for Women's Rights (GLWR) was founded 1920 in Athens and is the first exclusively feminist organization still in existence in Greece. From the very beginning the GLWR placed emphasis on political rights and was particularly active in the vote-for-women movement in the 1920s, 1930s and 1950s.The GLWR has been in the forefront of the struggle to repeal laws discriminating against women and to introduce progressive measures in family law. In 1982 the League established the Centre for Documentation and Study of Women's Problems. The GLWR publishes, since 1923 the Women's Struggle: a Historic Feminist Journal. The GLWR has been affiliated since 1923 with the International Alliance of Women (a Category I consultancy organization to UN agencies and the Council of Europe).
