The purpose of the article is to examine the factors determining women’s participation in the labour market in Cyprus and the possibility that employing domestic workers contribute to increased participation of married women in the workforce. For estimating the econometric model, data from the 1996/97 and 2002/03 Family Expenditure Surveys were used. The likelihood of women’s participation in the labour force has increased due to the factor “domestic assistance.” Women with “domestic assistance” are 20,5% more likely to participate in the labour market compared those who don’t have assistance.
