Building a map of female genital mutilation in Spain
Construyendo un mapa de las mutilaciones genitales femeninas en España
It gathers data on population in Spain from 28 countries where the FGM is practiced. Data comes from three sources: the Interior Ministry, the Yearbook on Migrations 2000 and the Institute of Statistics of Catalonia.

Women from countries where FGM is performed; girls under 15 from countries where FGM is performed
Prevalence data on FGM
Female migrant population originating from countries where FGM is practiced: 9547; from these 5561 living in Andalusia, Canary Islands, Catalonia, Aragon and Madrid are thought to be at risk for FGM (0-15 years old).
Disaggregated data per country of origin
The women concerned are from the following countries: Gambia, Senegal, Nigeria, Mauritania, Ghana, Cameroon, Guinea Bissau, Egypt, Republic of Guinea, Kenya, Congo, Mali, Sierra Leone, Côte d’Ivoire, Liberia, Ethiopia, Congo Brazzaville, Sudan, Burkina-Faso, Benin, Togo, Niger, Somalia, Uganda, Central African Republic, Chad, Djibouti, Eritrea. The most prominent nationalities are Gambia, Senegal, Nigeria and Mauritania.
Disaggregated data per age
5561 who are 0-15 years old are considered to be at risk (it covers just five regions)

Data regarding main nationalities where FGM is performed and girls at risk is provided for the Autonomous Communities of Madrid, Catalonia, Aragon, Canary Islands and Andalusia and in the case of Catalonia data is also broken by province
