The so called "Deutsche Frauenring e.V." - German Women's Association - demands the federal government to protect girls comprehensively from genital mutilation in Germany.
Der Deutsche Frauenring e.V. fordert Bundesregierung auf, Mädchen vor Genitalverstümmelung in Deutschland umfassend zu schützen.
* Germany has committed itself as a party to the UN Women's Convention (CEDAW), to combat female genital mutilation. The "German woman ring e.V." recalls the commitment and urges the federal government to improve the protection of vulnerable girls living in Germany, through appropriate measures. These include an independent criminal offense for genital mutilation, with adequate penalties and consequences for perpetrators. Such a supplement to the Criminal Code, however, is not sufficient to fight FGM in Germany effectively
