Types of FGM addressed
There is no specific law on FGM, but a) Serious bodily injury (Article 99 - Article 99 (1) Whoever inflicts serious bodily injury or severely impairs health of another person(s), shall be punished by imprisonment of six months to three years. (2 ) Whoever inflicts bodily injury or impairs health of other person(s) so severely that her/his life is endangered, or destroyed, or permanently and significantly weakens some important part(s) of her/his body or any important organ, or has caused permanent disability to work of injured or permanent and severe damage to her/his health or permanent disconfiguration, shall be punished by imprisonment of one to eight years or b) Arbitrary treatment (Art. 241, para. 3 - A physician or dentist who performs a surgical or other medical procedure that is not medically justified on the body of another person without her/his expressed and valid written consent, shall be punished by imprisonment from six months to five years.
