Number of asylum cases requested on the ground of FGM
In 2007, 83 cases were based on the fear for FGM, in 2008 185 cases, and in 2009, 160 cases (145 women and 15 men). In 2010, 210 out of 1621 gender related asylum cases were based on the fear for FGM (13%). The countries of origin were Guinea (117), Sierra Leone (11), Kenya (10), Togo (8), Ivory Coast (7), other countries (57).
Number of asylum cases granted on the ground of FGM
In 2008 the CGVS reported 141 positive decisions based on fear for FGM, in 2009 the number was 102 and 113 were recognized on this ground in 2010.
