The presence of stereotypes in the media: an analysis of Spanish digital press
La presencia de estereotipos en los medios de comunicación: análisis de la prensa digital española
A computerized analysis of content on an extensive sample of national and international news contained in libraries of the four major online newspapers was performed. It concluded that the presence of women´s names is reduced to 18% of the news. That presence is concentrated in certain sections (People, Society and Culture), weekdays (Sundays), the female authorship of news and other interesting variables. The research also provides several recommendations.
