Notes on the womanizing process of journalisms professions in the period 1990-2000
Anotações sobre o processo de feminização da profissão de jornalista na década de 1990
The text discusses the increasing professionalization of women in journalism in Portugal which took place in the last decades of the twentieth century and that can be explained by the increased number of women graduating in Communication and Journalism. The 1980’s brings several changes in the Portuguese media landscape and many journalists, mostly young female graduates, join the profession, usually precariously. But by then the schooling of Portuguese female journalists is not echoed in occupying top positions within the newsroom, except in magazines aimed at female audiences, where women are in majority in both the total number of journalists as in leading positions.
