Incorporating Gender into your NGO
How gender sensitive is your non-governmental organisation (NGO)? The aim of this manual is to help NGOs incorporate a gender perspective into their practice, both within and outside of the organisation. It explains some of the basic concepts and definitions around gender, like the difference between gender and sex, and between practical and strategic gender needs, and what is meant by gender analysis. It then identifies several steps that are needed to better incorporate gender into the work of NGOs, including: conduct a gender analysis of the organisation;, identify the changes needed; and develop strategic gender planning and action plans. It also explains how to implement such changes and conduct gender monitoring and evaluation. The manual is written in accessible English and features many practical examples, checklists and case studies. It also offers suggestions for further web resources and tools. A separate checklist, "Gender Issues in the Project Cycle", is designed to be used in conjunction with the manual.
