The Eonomic Crisis – Challenge or Opportunity for Gender Equality in Social Policy Outcomes? A Comparison of Denmark, Germany and the U.K
The study was carried out to assess the impact of the current financial and economic crisis on gender equality in terms of labour market and welfare outcomes. Using statistical indicators the analysis identifies a levelling down of gender gaps. But the seemingly greater losses of men are based on the fact, that women do not participate in the labour market on an equal footing, insofar as they are more likely to be involved in “vulnerable” working patterns such as part-time, temporary employment, informal work, etc.; they earn less and have fewer financial assets; they are often disadvantaged in terms of access to social security benefits.
