The paper examined the representations of women in Cyprus in some Cyprus dialect comedy productions. It concludes that 'the dominant masculine, social ideology, which exists about genders and their relationships….. is not really being overthrown or even subverted in the least, in Cyprus television productions. It is sustained politically through the media, and the public sphere…' Endorsements and reversals of stereotypes and in projected ideologies undermine the status of women in Cypriot society and strengthens the disempowerment of Cypriot women.
