Aims and objectives
An integrated monitoring system for gender equality policy has been lacking. The focus of the follow-ups made by the policy has been on monitoring actions rather than their effects.. SCB was against this background that in September 2008 tasked by the Government to develop gender statistics and to propose indicators for gender equality policy (ref. IJ2008/962/JÄM). The findings were reported in the part relating to the indicators in December 2010. In its entirety, the assignment is presented on 31 January 2012.

The intention is that the developed statistics and indicators should be available on SCB's website along with other gender statistics. SCB's proposed indicators is the basis for the follow-up that are pending on the Government Offices. The intention is to present the first follow-up of gender equality policies, based on the indicators in the budget proposal for 2013. The goal is that the monitoring system will contribute to the assessment of goal achievement in terms of gender equality policy objectives and targets over time. A systematic follow-up work represents a fundamental prerequisite for a strategic and long-term approach. The indicators for monirtoring should contribute to a better basis for the assesment of the four sub-goals and eventually allow for analysis of trends and rate of change within the sub-objectives areas. These indicators are also expected to improve conditions for problemidenti-cation and the opportunities to initiate accurate measures. Through these indicators will not be able to answer given to the question of what lies behind the development in a certain area, which requires additional knowledge and analysis. The focus of the indicators and monitoring system refers to aggregated outcomes at the national level, but the tracking system should also serve as inspiration in the work of monitoring and evaluation regionally and locally.
