Aims and objectives
The Resolution of the Council of Ministers n° 82/2005 (article 22) declares that the projects to be sent to the Cabinet of the Secretary of State of the Presidency of the Council of Ministers should always contain a gender impact assessment every time a project has implications on gender equality (§ j).

In 2006, the Portuguese Government created "Simplex", a program to simplify administrative and legislative activities for citizens, enterprises and public central and local administration. According to an officer of the Commission for Citizenship and Gender Equality, when proposing a legal measure in this program, there is a question about GIA in which the following options are available: Yes - No - Not Applicable.
