A study of Female genital mutilation in Austria: the performance of FGM in female migrants in Austria

Study population
250 African migrants (130 female and 120 male) from Burkina, Somalia, Sudan, Ethiopia, Egypt, Kenya, Nigeria, Mali, Faso, Senegal, Ghana and Sierra Leone.
Prevalence data on FGM
35% (n=252) of girls are subjected to FGM. 63% of parents had daughters with FGM, which was performed when their daughters were less than one year old. 88.5% of FGM took place in Africa, the rest in Europe, including Austria. 76% of the studied group was against the total abolition of FGM.
