Online discussion on EIGE’s database on gender statistics: interface & dissemination

We invite you to engage in the online discussion on the “EIGE’s database on gender statistics: interface & dissemination” that is a follow-up debate on a previous online discussion concerning the “Functionality and design of EIGE’s database on gender statistics” which took place on 15 July 2014.

EIGE’s founding Regulation states that the Institute should assist the Community institutions and the Member States in the collection, analysis and dissemination of objective, reliable and comparable information and data on equality between women and men. As part of its efforts for establishing a gender equality knowledge centre, the Institute is developing a centralized data source on gender statistics. Based primarily on reliable and comparable sex-disaggregated data, the database will serve to coordinate, centralize and disseminate research data and statistics on gender equality in Europe. According to the United Nations gender statistics are “Statistics that adequately reflect differences and inequalities in the situation of women and men in all areas of life”^[1].

EIGE’s database on gender statistics should thus become a centralised source of statistics, data and metadata according to different search criteria and identified keywords within the framework of EU policy areas on gender equality.

During the online discussion, we will discuss various solutions for interface and web visualization of the database. We look forward to receiving the participants’ preferences and their set of priorities when using the gender statistics database. In addition, we will assess how to best promote and raise awareness on the new tool, which is expected to be officially launched in the autumn of 2015. We invite you to havea look at tge web-design proposals and provide us with your feedback during the online discussion.
