One in three women globally still experiences physical and sexual abuse, thus gender-based violence remains of epidemic proportions. The results of various studies reveal that the violence against women not only restricts the civil and political participation of women, their equal treatment in the labour market, but is also one of the preconditions that decelerate the functioning of economy and society.

With the aim to address the above mentioned issues and to commemorate the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, the Permanent Representation of Lithuania to the European Union in cooperation with Women in Parliaments Global Forum (WIP) organises a discussion „Economic Cost of Violence against Women“. The event will take place on the 25th of November, 2016 at 12.30 (registration from 12.00) at the Permanent Representation of Lithuania to the European Union, Rue Belliard 41-42, Brussels.

Participants with long-term experience in tackling gender-based violence will share their knowledge and discuss, among other issues, the impact of women’s empowerment on the reduction of gender-based violence and the reliable tools for quantifying the cost of violence against women.
