EIGE will organise a sixth meeting of the Working Group on the Beijing indicators on 9 and 10 October 2013 in Vilnius, Lithuania.

The Working Group on the Beijing indicators was established at EIGE in 2010 to facilitate the development of reliable, harmonised and comparable information required for the follow-up of the BPfA implementation. Its members consist of civil servants, researchers, academics and representatives of civil society organisations, with broad and diverse expertise in the area of gender equality.

The discussions held there have formed the basis for further developments to support EIGE’s work in this area. It is the first forum where EIGE presents its studies for the Presidencies of the Council of the European Union and debates the data for new or existing indicators for measuring progress in the different areas of the BPfA. The conclusions of these debates have been reflected in EIGE’s reports.

The meeting will focus on several specific subjects including:

  • the advancement of gender equality and media organisations in EU Member States;
  •  institutional mechanisms for the advancement of gender equality in the EU and the Member States in the current context;
  •  factors supporting women’s economic independence and entrepreneurship;
  •  and the next review of the BPfA in the EU, as known as ‘Beijing +20’.
