Description

By approving Directive (EU) 2024/1385, a historic law to fight violence against women and domestic abuse, EIGE has two main tasks under Article 44 of the Directive. First, it creates a system to collect data across EU countries. Second, it develops common methods for gathering administrative data. These efforts are important for a unified and effective response to gender-based violence across the EU.

The project produces a Roadmap to guide these efforts. Starting in 2027, data collection begins regularly and includes more types of violence than before. New areas include cyber violence, forced marriage, female genital mutilation, and social service indicators, along with improved existing EIGE indicators on intimate partner violence and domestic violence.  EIGE is developing new indicators, assessing their feasibility, and providing technical support to countries. This helps implement Article 44 on time and make data more comparable across the EU.

To make data transfer easier, EIGE prepares to launch a secure web platform. The project also aims to create clear guidance and standards, resulting in detailed Standard Operating Procedures for data collection as required in Article 44.
