  • Socialists & Democrats hearing on 'A methodology for Gender mainstreaming in the EU budget'

    The hearing 'A methodology for Gender mainstreaming in the EU budget', is organised by the Socialists & Democrats (S&D) Committee on Budget in cooperation with S&D FEMM committee in the European Parliament. The event will examine how the methodology was developed and what were the constraints and challenges. Gender Mainstreaming Team Leader, Helena Morais Maceira, will attend the meeting on behalf of EIGE.

  • Gender Mainstreaming in the EU budget

    During the 2021-2027 Multiannual Financial Framework (MFF) negotiations, equality between women and men was agreed as a Horizontal Principle of the Budget. The Commission has committed to develop a methodology to measure gender relevant expenditure at programme level in the MFF 2021-2027, to be implemented as soon as available and no later than 1st January 2023. A new gender expenditure methodology has been developed and was applied for the first time in the context of the 2023 budget adoption procedure.

  • A meeting of the High Level Group on Gender mainstreaming

    The High Level Group (HLG) on Gender Mainstreaming consists of national gender equality governmental representatives with responsibilities for gender mainstreaming at national level. It is chaired by the European Commission in close collaboration with the Presidency which EIGE is supporting with gender equality expertise. The HLG will meet in Stockholm in context of the Swedish Presidency of the Council of the European Union.

  • Economic perspectives on gender-based violence

    Within the Swedish presidency conferences, this seminar will focus on the economic perspectives on gender-based violence as a means to pave the path to prevention. The event will see a mix of speeches, plenary sessions and workshops. Among the speakers, will be: Paulina Brandberg, Minister for Gender Equality and Deputy Minister for Employment, Sweden Helena Dalli, EU Commissioner for Equality Lena Ag, Director General, Swedish Gender Equality Agency Carlien Scheele, Director, European Institute for Gender Equality (EIGE)

  • Presenting EIGE's 2023 work programme

    In the European Parliament FEMM committee meeting in Brussels, EIGE presents its work programme for 2023. Based on crucial conversations from EIGE's Gender Equality Forum in 2022 among policy makers, gender equality activists, business leaders and many others, we are continuing ongoing commitments for advancing gender equality. This occasion opens a dialogue for important discussions with members of the Committee related to the thematic priorities for the upcoming year including the European Green Deal.

  • Film screening of documentary #SalePute in Kaunas

    The European Institute for Gender Equality (EIGE) together with Vytautas Magnus University (VMU) invite you to a screening of documentary ‘#SalePute’ followed by discussion on Cyber Violence against women and girls (CVAWG). Registration link. The discussion after the screening will be led by Eleonora Esposito, expert in the gender-based violence team at EIGE, Jurate Juskaite from Human Rights Centre, mural artist and painter Linas Kaziulionis, VMU professor and project SPEAR leader Natalija Mažeikienė.

  • UNiTE: Orange the World campaign launch in Brussels

    It is time we create #safespaces online in the same way we want to create safe space offline. This year EIGE aims to raise awareness on the increasing prevalence of cyber violence in today’s world, looking through the perspective of #SafeSpaces – at home, in school, in public. Cyber violence against women and girls is a new dimension of gender-based violence that is perpetrated online, across different platforms, such as social media, emails or instant messaging apps.

  • EIGE Gender Equality Forum 2022

    The first-ever Gender Equality Forum identifies and breaks through roadblocks on the path towards a gender-equal European Union. It provides a platform to share evidence and expertise related to gender equality issues with high-level political decision-makers, practitioners and civil society.

  • 14th Regional Coordination Meeting of EU candidate countries and potential candidates

    Women in economic decision-making in the Western Balkans and Türkiye As a part of the first-ever EIGE Gender Equality Forum 2022, we gathered representatives from the governments, EU delegations and civil society from the EU candidate countries and potential candidates. The closed session of the Forum was dedicated to more equal economic decision-making in the Western Balkans and Türkiye. We discussed the situation of women in business and women’s leadership, data on gender balance in economic decision-making and Gender Equality Index scores in the region.

  • Regional thematic event for EU candidate countries and potential candidates

    Gender Mainstreaming in the Western Balkans and Türkiye European Institute for Gender Equality (EIGE) organised a regional thematic event on gender mainstreaming for EU candidate countries and potential candidates in September 2022. Gender equality machineries, gender equality focal points in ministries and national institutions as well as civil society counterparts from Western Balkans and Türkiye gathered to discuss the experience and challenges in gender mainstreaming in the region and learned how to use EIGE tools and methods in their work.
