The forthcoming Mutual Learning seminar on "Women in political decision-making" will be held in Ljubljana, 15-16th of June. The venue of the meeting is the Hotel Lev Ljubljana, Vošnjakova ulica.

The morning of the first day will concentrate on the good practice from Slovenia, while the afternoon will feature presentations on the French good practice, followed by general discussion with all participants.

The general discussion will focus on issues such as:

  • Ÿ  How effective are legislative gender quotas (as a fast-track to equal political representation) in different national contexts? Who were the drivers of the process and how could obstacles be overcome?
  • Ÿ  How to ensure that not only more women get on the candidates lists or elected but that there is also a better representation of women at the highest level of political decision-making (government, prime minister)?
  • Ÿ  What other innovative and effective measures and practices besides legal gender quotas can be applied to enforce equal representation?
  • Ÿ  How to attract more women to entering politics and keep women in politics for more than one mandate to get more experience, develop their political skills and gain more political capital?

On the second day we will split into two parallel working groups in which we will predominantly focus on the situation in the other participating countries. The second day will also focus on lessons that you take back home from what you’ve heard at the seminar, respectively lessons to be learned from your country’s experience in advancing women in political decision-making.

Participation in this event is by invitation only.
