This area concerns both the elected members and the employed staff. The rationale of the area is that a gender-sensitive parliament is one that assures equal opportunities for both men and women to enter the institution.
Area 1 includes three domains and 11 indicators.
The first domain assesses whether and how electoral rules and procedures assure gender equality.
The second domain maps out political parties’ measures that actively support the equal access of women and men candidates into the parliament.
The third domain looks into the administration staff and political appointees’ recruitment procedures.
