EU agency for gender equality's Gender Mainstreaming team leader, Helena Morais Maceira, attends the regional consultation for women's representation on decision-making organized by the Convention on the Elimination of Violence Against Women (CEDAW) Committee, supported by the UN Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) and UN Women, in Istanbul.

The CEDAW Committee organizes regional meetings to facilitate an exchange of knowledge, good practices and initiatives related to equal and inclusive women's representation. Also, the regional consultation aims to identify innovative and transformative solutions to address women's underrepresentation in decision-making.

The EU agency for gender equality engages in several moderated dialogues, to foster region-specific recommendations and a comprehensive approach to decision-making, which connects political, economic, and cultural spheres.

The consultations represent an opportunity to create an interactive platform for CSOs, UN agencies and experts to shape the draft of the CEDAW General Recommendation Nr 40, on the equal and inclusive representation of women in decision-making, in alignment with regional priorities. In addition, the discussion intends to respond to priorities and needs of each region, reflecting the overcoming challenges and paving the way for women's equal and inclusive representation in decision-making systems.
