The need to produce and share EU-wide, comparable, reliable gender statistics and indicators has been highlighted by the European Parliament, the Council and the European Commission and is part of a significant political commitment to gender equality and gender mainstreaming at the international level.

Aiming to address persistent challenges of gender-based violence statistics EIGE has been building statistical capacity at the EU level on specific forms of violence against women. In light of the new Proposal for a Directive on combating violence against women and domestic violence, EIGE has reviewed the measurement framework of the administrative indicators on these forms of violence and is now preparing a new data collection exercise.

The objective of the meetings is to consult on:
• Quality standards for gender statistics (with specific focus on intersectionality).
• Remaining challenges on gender statistics.
• EIGE’s 2nd administrative data collection exercise on the 13 indicators on violence against women and domestic violence.

These meetings will be facilitated by Ligia Nobrega, EIGE's Gender Statistics Database Officer and Cristina Fabre Rosell, EIGE's Gender-based Violence Team Leader.
