Twenty years ago, world leaders gathered in Beijing to define a policy framework and roadmap for achieving gender equality and women's rights. Where do we stand two decades years later, and how are we monitoring our commitment? The European Union and its Member States are determined to implement the Beijing Platform for Action and have introduced, with the support of the European Institute for Gender Equality (EIGE), a review process of its implementation.

The event will provide an opportunity to reflect on achievements and remaining challenges in gender equality in the EU based on this review process. EIGE's Director Virginija Langbakk, will present the main findings of the review reports of the Beijing Platform for Action in the EU Member States, followed by a discussion. Results of the latest report developed for the Italian Presidency of the Council of the EU will be highlighted in an introductory statement by Amedeo Trambajolo, Deputy Permanent Representative of Italy to the UN in Geneva.
