The Silent Presence: Asian Female Domestic Workers and Cyprus in the New Europe
Anthropological study based on field work of attitudes and perceptions of the gendered roles of Cypriot employers and female Asian domestic workers. Women are routinely objectified as symbols and markers of status by employers.. Domestic work, care for children and the elderly which were traditionally areas of undeclared female paid and unpaid work, has partly shifted from local women to migrant women.
