“Mapping of the Gendered Social Map of Cyprus
The research was conducted in the context of an EQUAL Community Initiative programme, co-funded by the European Social Fund entitled ELANI: Open Doors. This project aimed at enhancing the participation of women in economic life by encouraging businesses to adopt family friendly policies and through the promotion of reconciliation of professional and family life. It addressed: working women unable to work due to family obligations; unemployed women excluded from the labour market due to family obligations; inactive women wishing to enter the labour market but have never worked due to family or traditional reasons. The findings report based on a national survey mapped the gendered dimensions of employment in Cyprus and within the family: horizontal and vertical segregation, gendered roles and unequal division of unpaid work in caring for dependents and housework. The study also addressed the attitudes of respondents towards work-family reconciliation policies.
