Dutch doctors should tackle female genital mutilation
This article reports on the proposal of the Council for Public Health and Care in the NL to conduct physical examinations of the genitalia of girls aged 6, 9 and 13 years, as part of regular health checks, and the recommendation that doctors should be legally obliged to report cases. The proposal is being opposed by a wide range of medical organisations who claim this will drive the practice underground.
