Alcohol has a (hard) hand in intimate partner violence (alcohol heeft een (harde) hand in partnergeweld)
This seminar focusses on the idea that alcohol usage lowers the threshold to commit violence. In this seminar, the link between alcohol usage and IPV will be highlighted. Topics related to both alcohol usage and domesticviolence will be presented. The seminar consists of four presentations: (1) Prevention of alcohol abuse, with particular attention for alcohol usage among adults, support for pub owners for dealing with drunken clients, and support for organisations who work with children who grow up in families with drug- and alcohol use, (2) mental health care with alcohol and drug abuse, and the link with domestic violence and impulsivity, (3) judicial framework for difficulties within a relationship and the impact of alcohol abuse in the context of domestic violence, (4) mental health care for couples where domestic violence occurs, the role of alcohol and the way to deal with it.
