The media representation of prostitution in Hungary
A prostitúció médiareprezentációja Magyarországon
This comparative analysis about the media representation of prostitution in Hungary draws on the results of a discourse analysis of Partícia Margit from 2003 and compares these results with media discourses on prostitution between 2008 and 2012. While the earlier article focuses on the humiliation of prostitutes in the media, the present analysis reveals that a change has happened: besides the still dominant aspects of prostitution as crime, the human rights aspect has also appeared, with prostitutes increasingly represented as victims. The author also discusses the persistence of the degrading terms for prostitutes, especially in official police news reports.
