Cynical References to Political Correctness in Hungarian Media in the 2000s

The journal article explores how in the 2000s in Hungarian media feminism was systematically conflated with the demand for 'politically correct' language. On the basis of four articles from print and online media across the whole spectrum of political stances on feminism, the author demonstrates that this conflation happens either out of tolerance towards feminism or to the detriment of feminism. However, both attitudes demonstrate a stereotypical view of feminism, and the tolerant view profits from the disparaging one because it fails to cite feminist views on political correctness but relies on the 'flat', simplifying view. As a result, both attitudes lead to discrediting feminism.
