Gendering in the occupational area Journalism : An Overview about Empiricism and Theory as well as the Integration of the Social Theory of Pierre Bourdieu
Gendering im Berufsfeld Journalismus : Ein Überblick über Empirie und Theorie sowie die Integration der Sozialtheorie Pierre Bourdieus
In this revised version of the author's master's thesis, Wiebke Schoon is reconsidering explanations for gender hierarchies in the occupational field of journalism. How can stability and change be examined theoretically and methodologically? How can analytics be extended? Thus, the author provides an overview of previous work of the ‘Kommunikatorforschung’ (‘communicator research’), partly criticizing it for their lack of gender-sensitivity. A contribution to the theoretical development is achieved through the integration of the social theory of Pierre Bourdieu into the field so that the publication provides impulses for the innovative analysis of power relations in the professional field.
