Over a period of 1 month (to be elected per maternity ward), previously trained obstetricians and midwives had to fill out on a daily basis, a database indicating: number of births/number of parturients from countries at risk/number of mutilated parturients/typology of FGM

Guinea (7), Mali(2), Senegal (1), Egypt (1), Cameroon (1) and Mauritania (1).

Disaggregation per type of FGM: Clitoridectomy 14 %; Excision 65%; Infibulation 7%

Disaggregation per educational level: Primary 21%; Secondary 14%; Upper secondary and university degrees 36%; N.A 29%

Limitations of study

No data about the size of the group of reference (parturients & parturients from country at risk). Study conducted in a region with a low proportion of residents of African origins
