Ministry of Health Guidelines

This is a report submitted to the Ministry of Health by the Commission for the prevention and prohibition of female genital mutilation. The report consists of two parts: a socio-anthropological introduction to the topic of female genital mutilation, illustrating the deep psychological economic, social and cultural motivations, the characteristics of the phenomenon in Italy and the legal instruments available to combat it; the other part consisting of real guidelines for health care and socio-cultural operators working with immigrant communities, so that they can properly face these issues in their profession, assist and rehabilitate women who were victims and prevent the use of FGM.
