To promote gender equality in research and higher education institutions, EIGE and the European Commission’s Directorate-General for Research and Innovation commissioned a project to:

  • Map and analyse the legal and policy frameworks and other stimulus initiatives promoting gender equality in research;
  • Identify good practices in integrating gender equality into research and higher education institutions;
  • Develop an online tool to assist institutions with setting up, implementing, monitoring and evaluating gender equality plans.

The GEAR tool (Gender Equality in Research and Academia) is the result of multiple contributions at different stages of the process, from the Member States and beyond. The report summarises the main findings of the research and co-creation processes undertaken throughout the project and reflects the wealth of information and insights gathered.
