Europe runs on care – but much of the work that sustains it, mostly performed by women, remains unpaid, unseen and uncounted. When care falls short, what are the consequences for people, businesses and Europe’s economy – and where can investment make the greatest difference? Grounded in EIGE’s Gender Equality Index and latest CARE Survey, this conversation will explore what care looks like on the ground: where people, care providers, employers and local authorities face the greatest pressures, and where change is already possible. It will examine the challenges and opportunities around childcare and long-term care services, parental leave and work–life balance, and the quality of care jobs – and ask how investment, national policies and the forthcoming European Care Deal can help widen labour market participation, retain talent and deliver on gender equality.
