Heather Roy has served as Secretary General of Eurodiaconia since 2008, leading one of Europe’s foremost networks of churches and Christian organisations providing social and healthcare services while advocating for social justice. Based in Brussels, she has guided Eurodiaconia’s growth as a respected voice in European policy, promoting inclusive social policies that uphold the dignity, rights, and wellbeing of people experiencing poverty, exclusion, displacement, and inequality.
Originally from Scotland, Heather brings nearly three decades of experience in civil society and international non-governmental organisations. Before joining Eurodiaconia, she worked in the homelessness sector in Scotland and with an international youth organisation dedicated to the participation and empowerment of girls and young women.
Heather has served on the boards of several European social policy organisations and is widely recognised for her expertise in social services, social inclusion, migration, and the social economy.
