Irene Montero
Minister of Equality of Spain
Graduated in Psychology and Master's degree in Educational Psychology. She has been linked to social movements, especially to the Platform of People Affected by Mortgages.
She was elected Deputy for Unidas Podemos in the Congress of Deputies in the 2015, 2016 and 2019 elections. In January 2020 she was appointed Ministry for Equality. Montero's policies focus on inequalities and violence against women, applying an intersectional perspective and following the Istanbul Convention.
During her mandate, Montero has promoted laws as relevant as the Organic Law of Integral Guarantee of Sexual Freedom, the law for the Real and Effective Equality of Trans People and for the Guarantee of the Rights of LGTBI people and the reform of the Law on Sexual and Reproductive Health and Voluntary Interruption of pregnancy.
