The role of data and evidence for policy making
Over the years, many institutions, including EIGE, have been collecting data to inform action to close gender gaps and address intersecting inequalities. And we have seen that evidence can greatly impact policy and action.
In line with European Commission’s ‘Union of Equality’ Strategies, it is time to unpack how gender manifests when combined with other characteristics such as age, disability, migrant background, ethnicity, sexual orientation or socioeconomic background. What role can research and gender statistics play to make diverse lived experiences more visible? Where do we see good practices, current limitations and ways forward? And how can a nuanced, evidence-backed understanding of gender equality and intersecting inequalities help inform policy making?
