Pronouns: She/her
Matilde João Mota is a PhD researcher at the United Nations University (UNU-MERIT) and Maastricht University, whose work engages critically with gender, feminism and the economy, combining quantitative and qualitative methods to investigate how socioeconomic behaviour is shaped within the boundaries of gender norms.
Her interests include women’s participation in the market and care economy, driven by a concern with how power structures constrain or enable women’s emancipation. Beyond academia, Matilde acts as a Youth Advisor for UNICEF, ensuring youth perspectives are considered in policy evaluation, and as a Research Consultant at the EUI. Her commitment to bridging academic and policy spaces is further backed by previous experience at different public institutions, such as the ECB.
