Martin considers himself a pragmatic idealist with a deep conviction that change is necessary and that it can only be achieved through collaboration.  Martin currently works as a freelance consultant in participatory leadership, supporting organizations and communities in their efforts to foster collaboration.  In January 2026, he ended an 18 year career as a Senior Adviser in the World Health Organization.  In that capacity, Martin led participatory processes at the international and national levels, as well as within the WHO.  He has also served two years as the Director of Sustainability at McGill University in Canada, where he led a participatory process that engaged the students, faculty, and staff to develop McGill’s first sustainability strategy and action plan. In addition to the WHO, he has delivered participatory leadership training for the European Commission, the European Environment Agency, as well as a number of open trainings.  Outside of work, Martin is active in his community and led the establishment of Denmark's first climate-neutral housing COOP.
